We at http://winning-streak.com would like to congratulate Meredith Wernig of Lutheran South High School Lancers Softball Team in Imperial, Missouri, who recently signed a letter of intent to play softball for SIU Carbondale. Meredith’s summer team is the St. Louis Chaos, with whom she has finished top three in ASA Junior Olympic Cup twice. In 93 plate appearances for the Lancers this season, Meredith hit .457 with a .516 on-base percentage, an .802 slugging percentage, with 4 homers and 27 RBI. In the past, Meredith has constantly hit for a high average and has been able to drive in runs, but this season marked a particularly explosive power game to compliment her elite contact abilities. Meredith finished second on her team in home runs, and tied for second in RBI. Last season, Meredith hit a whopping .517 with 26 RBI, and in 2014 she hit .397 with 34 RBI.
Positional flexibility has been a key for Wernig, who played every position for her high school team this past season. Learning a new position, and having the flexibility to be able to move around the diamond isn’t something that many adapt to well, and Meredith’s ability to do so shows a lot about her work ethic. In SIU’s announcement of the signing, coach Kerri Blaylock had this to say: “Meredith is good utility player. She can play a corner or outfield. She competes hard at the plate. She is a kid that works hard on the field and you notice that.”
Congratulations to Meredith on an outstanding high school career, and best of luck in Carbondale!
