Fort Zumwalt South recently held their annual scrimmage game between the JV and freshman girls basketball teams. Each year, the school gathers as the teams play one another. The girls on the freshman team, above, have come together for something else entirely. The warmups the freshmen wore for the game read:
We Fight for Brae
Braelynn French, niece of freshman coach Blake French, passed away from brain cancer in 2016. Braelynn was just four years old. Brae touched the hearts of many, including the basketball team who honor Brae in every game they play as they show support and love for Blake and the rest of the French family. The varsity team will also open up the season with purple ribbons in memory of Braelynn.
Our deepest condolences are with Braelynn’s family and all who knew her.
When tragedy strikes, often times we look to community for comfort. Sports often fills that void for many. At Fort Zumwalt South, the players, students, staff, families, and fans are rallying together to honor a special little girl and to show her family how much she meant to them. This is a great example of how in dark times we can rally together.
